Our work

SOME OF OUR RECENT WORK

Real jobs, our own photographs, across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Patios and terracing, driveways, retaining walls, fencing and the groundworks underneath it all — which is the part that decides whether any of it lasts.

Or call Connor direct on 07738 008077

Every photograph here is one of ours, taken on site. The finished gardens come first — the most recent one at the top — and the work in progress is further down, because the interesting part of most of these jobs is buried by the time it is done.

RECENT WORK

A whole garden in beige limestone, finished summer 2026 — terracing, paving, cedar screens, retaining walls, planting and a corten water bowl.

Beige limestone patio with two shallow steps up to a back door, a stone-faced riser and cedar slatted screens either side
LIMESTONE TERRACE & STEPSSawn limestone laid to a shallow fall, with a stone-faced riser and cedar screens either side for privacy.
Limestone terrace with an outdoor sofa, parasol and dining set, enclosed by timber slatted screens
THE SAME TERRACE, IN USEScreens do what a fence cannot — privacy at sitting height without shutting the view down.
Limestone terrace with garden furniture looking out over trees and rooftops
SITTING OUTA sloping plot terraced flat enough to put a table on, with the view left open beyond it.
Limestone paving beside a brick house with a new lawn and freshly planted borders
PAVING, LAWN AND PLANTINGOne job, one team. Levels and drainage get solved once rather than three times by three trades.
Limestone terrace edge with a deep planted border and lawn beyond
BORDERS COMING AWAYPhotographed a few weeks after planting. Bed depths are set at build stage, not squeezed in at the end.
Limestone path curving between a lawn and a deep planted border
PATH THROUGH THE GARDENWide enough for two people or a wheelbarrow. Paths built too narrow are the most common regret we hear.
Limestone path along the side of a house with a dark sett border and planted bed
SIDE RETURNThe dark sett course frames the limestone and draws the eye down what is usually a dead space.
Corten steel water bowl set in a planted border above a stone-faced retaining wall
CORTEN WATER BOWLWater, and a bit of height. The wall behind it is holding back the best part of a metre of ground.
Close view of a corten steel water bowl surrounded by purple and green perennial planting
PLANTING, CLOSE UPPlanted for a long season rather than one good month in June.
Stone-clad retaining wall with a channel drain running along its base
RETAINING WALL AND DRAINAGEThe channel drain at the foot of the wall is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the paving lasts.

FINISHED GARDENS

Patios and terracing, driveways, fencing, lawns, hedges and tree work across Bucks and Herts.

Grey porcelain patio in a narrow garden with two timber sleeper planters and artificial lawn beyond
COURTYARD, START TO FINISHA narrow garden squared off with porcelain, sleeper planters and a strip of lawn at the far end.
Long grey porcelain patio running the length of a fenced garden
FULL-WIDTH PORCELAINLarge-format porcelain in a small garden makes it read bigger. Fewer joints, less to catch the eye.
Grey porcelain paving running past bifold doors with a lawn alongside
PORCELAIN BY THE DOORSLaid flush with the threshold so there is no step out of the house.
Wet grey porcelain patio with a timber pergola and outdoor sofa
PATIO AND PERGOLAThe pergola was built as part of the same job, so its posts are set into the sub-base rather than bolted on afterwards.
Grey porcelain patio with pergola, looking down the garden towards a lawn
LOOKING DOWN THE GARDENTerrace, path and lawn set out together so the proportions work from the back door.
Dark slate-grey patio in a sloping garden with a raised bed and steps
LEVELS OUT OF A SLOPETwo usable terraces cut out of a garden that fell away from the house.
Sandstone patio with steps up to a raised lawn, outdoor furniture in the foreground
SANDSTONE AND STEPSSteps built wide and shallow. Narrow, steep garden steps are how people come to grief in the dark.
Sandstone patio and lawn in front of a garden room with bifold doors
PATIO TO GARDEN ROOMPaving taken right up to the garden room so the two read as one space.
Round dining table and chairs under a large parasol on a dark porcelain terrace
A TABLE THAT FITSTerraces get sized around the furniture that will go on them, measured at the first visit.
Riven sandstone patio enclosed by a low brick retaining wall with steps to a lawn
BRICKWORK AND PAVINGBrick retaining wall, steps and paving by the same team, so the courses and the paving line up.
Sandstone paving running along a narrow side return between two houses
NARROW SIDE RETURNFalls taken away from both walls so water has somewhere to go.
Grey porcelain path beside a brick wall with a newly planted border
PATH AND BORDEREdges cut on site rather than fudged with mortar.
Grey porcelain path running beside a close-boarded fence and lawn
PATH, FENCE, LAWNThree trades, one visit.
Sawn stone slabs set into gravel forming a path across a lawn
SLABS SET IN GRAVELCheaper than a full path, and it drains itself.
Front garden with rectangular slabs set in gravel leading to a house
FRONT GARDENFront gardens are the ones the neighbours see. Worth doing properly.
Artificial lawn with a putting green cut into it, edged against a fence
ARTIFICIAL LAWNLaid on a proper stone sub-base. Artificial grass over soil sinks and ripples within a season.
Freshly mown striped lawn running the length of a large garden
NEW TURF, ESTABLISHEDThe same lawn a season on. Turf is only as good as the ground preparation under it.
Large open lawn with mature trees and a house beyond
BIG OPEN LAWNSLarger plots are as much about drainage and levels as they are about grass.
Gravel driveway edged with timber sleepers beside a lawn
GRAVEL DRIVEWAYEdged properly so the gravel stays on the drive and out of the lawn.
Gravel driveway curving past a lawn with a clean cut edge
DRIVE AND LAWNMembrane, sub-base, edging, then gravel. Skip any of the four and it goes to seed.
New gravel driveway leading up to a white rendered house
KERB APPEALA drive is usually the first thing anyone sees of a house.
Long run of new close-boarded fencing across the back of a garden with a view beyond
CLOSE-BOARDED FENCINGConcrete posts and gravel boards on a long exposed run. Timber posts on a boundary like this rot out.
White-tipped picket fence enclosing a small front lawn beside a path
PICKET FENCINGLower fences suit front gardens. Six-foot close-board out the front looks like a compound.
Picket fencing following the line of a steep bank beside woodland
FENCING A BANKStepped down the slope rather than raked, so the top line stays level.
Picket and post-and-rail fencing along a field boundary with mature trees behind
FIELD BOUNDARYPost and rail where livestock or horses are the other side of it.
Neatly cut topiary hedge in a shaped tier beside a house
TOPIARYCut by eye and by hand. Not everything is a job for a hedge trimmer on a pole.
Long garden hedge cut level and squared along its full length
HEDGE REDUCTIONTaken down in height and brought back to a face it can hold for a few years.
Clipped hedge arch over a brick path leading through a garden
HEDGE ARCH AND PATHHedge work and the path underneath it done together.
Garden terrace at night lit by recessed lights along a rendered wall
AFTER DARKLighting run in at build stage. Retro-fitting it means lifting what you just laid.
Timber pergola over a paved seating area with sofas and planting
PERGOLAShade in July, structure in January.

WORK BEING CARRIED OUT

Clearance, groundworks, sub-bases, retaining and tree work — the parts that decide whether the finished garden lasts.

Excavator working along a trench with timber sleeper retaining going in behind it
THE PART NOBODY SEESRetaining and levels going in on the limestone garden above. Everything else sits on this.
Freshly dug bed alongside new limestone paving with a line of young screening conifers
GROUND PREPARATIONBeds dug and improved before anything goes in them.
Newly laid limestone path along a house with bare soil either side
PAVING DOWN FIRSTHard landscaping first, soft landscaping after. Doing it the other way round wrecks the planting.
Timber sleeper-edged base set out on a lawn ready for paving
SETTING OUTSquared, levelled and edged before a single slab is laid.
Driveway excavated and edged with a compacted stone sub-base going in
SUB-BASEType 1 compacted in layers. The reason a drive does not rut in year two.
Cleared garden between fences with a wacker plate and materials on site
CLEARED AND READYSame garden, cleared to soil and levelled ready for the build.
Large overgrown conifer hedge part-cut with cut material stacked below
BEFOREOvergrown gardens are most of what we start with.
Large garden stripped back to soil with an excavator and stacked materials
FULL CLEARANCECleared, muck away, and levels re-set before anything is built.
New brick retaining wall built against a house with a laser level set up
BRICKWORK GOING INLaid to a laser, not by eye.
Brick retaining wall under construction along an excavated bank
FOUNDATIONSDug down to firm ground, whatever the drawing said.
Operative in a hi-vis vest working a mini excavator over a raised border
PLANT ON SITEMachines where they save time, hand work where they would do damage.

THE SAME TERRACE, FINISHEDA slope turned into two usable levels.
Climber roped into a large tree taking limbs off in sections
TREE WORK, IN-HOUSESectional dismantling over a garden. Nothing is dropped whole.
Arborist working up a large ivy-clad trunk with a chainsaw on his harness
NPTC-QUALIFIEDSame team as the landscaping, so the tree comes out and the garden gets rebuilt without a second firm.
Large tree sectioned into rings and stacked with a chainsaw in the foreground
PROCESSED ON SITECut down, cut up and taken away. We hold a waste carrier licence.
Stacked cordwood and timber rings at the yard
EVERYTHING LEAVES LEGALLYArisings go back to the yard, not into a hedge on the way home.
Freshly felled tree with the stump cut clean and a chainsaw resting on it
FELLINGDropped where it could be dropped safely.
Cut tree stump left proud of the ground against a fence
STUMPSLeft like this, they regrow, trip people up and bring in honey fungus.
Tracked cherry picker set up under a large roadside tree
MEWP ACCESSWhere climbing is not the safe option, we bring a platform in.
Arborist working from a cherry picker reducing the crown of a large tree
CROWN REDUCTIONReduced to growth points so it comes back as a tree, not a hat stand.
Large dead tree standing in a mown garden between fences
DEAD AND DANGEROUSDead limbs over a garden are the ones that come down without warning.
Rolls of new turf part-laid across a prepared and levelled garden
TURF GOING DOWNLevelled, raked and rolled out the same day it arrives.

THE TEAMSmall team, same faces, no subcontracted crew you have never met.

What you are looking at

Most of these are whole-garden jobs rather than single items, because that is the bulk of what we do. A typical one starts with clearance, goes through levelling and retaining walls to get usable terraces out of a slope, then paving, fencing and finally turf and planting.

Where a tree had to come out or be reduced first, that was us too — Connor is an NPTC-qualified arborist, so the tree work and the landscaping are one team rather than two firms working round each other.

We add to this as we go. If there is a particular kind of job you want to see more of — a steep garden, a driveway, a small courtyard — ring and ask and we will send you photographs of ones like it.

Common questions

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED

Are these your own jobs?

Yes, all of them, photographed by us on site. Nothing here is a stock photograph or someone else’s work.

Can I see more of a particular type of job?

Ring or drop us a line and say what you are thinking about — a sloping garden, a driveway, a small courtyard — and we will send over photographs of similar ones we have done.

Can I visit somewhere you have worked?

Sometimes, if a past customer is happy for us to ask. It is worth doing for a big job — seeing a finished garden in the flesh tells you more than any photograph, and you can ask them what we were like to have around.
