GARDENS WE HAVE FINISHED

Every photograph on this site is one of ours, taken on the job. No stock images, no other firm’s work.

Beige limestone patio with two shallow steps up to a back door, a stone-faced riser and cedar slatted screens either side
LIMESTONE TERRACE & STEPSSawn limestone laid to a shallow fall, with a stone-faced riser and cedar screens either side for privacy.
Grey porcelain patio in a narrow garden with two timber sleeper planters and artificial lawn beyond
COURTYARD, START TO FINISHA narrow garden squared off with porcelain, sleeper planters and a strip of lawn at the far end.
Limestone terrace with an outdoor sofa, parasol and dining set, enclosed by timber slatted screens
THE SAME TERRACE, IN USEScreens do what a fence cannot — privacy at sitting height without shutting the view down.
Gravel driveway edged with timber sleepers beside a lawn
GRAVEL DRIVEWAYEdged properly so the gravel stays on the drive and out of the lawn.
Long run of new close-boarded fencing across the back of a garden with a view beyond
CLOSE-BOARDED FENCINGConcrete posts and gravel boards on a long exposed run. Timber posts on a boundary like this rot out.
Freshly mown striped lawn running the length of a large garden
NEW TURF, ESTABLISHEDThe same lawn a season on. Turf is only as good as the ground preparation under it.

The whole job

WE CLEAR IT, DESIGN IT AND BUILD IT

However overgrown it is, and whatever you want it to become.

CLEAR IT

Nothing is too far gone. We take gardens back to bare ground and start again.

  • Trees felled and dismantled
  • Stumps ground out completely
  • Hedges reduced or removed
  • Overgrowth, brambles and scrub
  • Old sheds, slabs, fencing and rubble
  • Every bit of it taken away by us

DESIGN IT

Worked out on site with you, by the people who’ll actually build it.

  • Layout and how you’ll use the space
  • Levels, terracing and retaining
  • Drainage sorted before anything is laid
  • Materials chosen to suit the house
  • Planting that works in this soil
  • Honest advice on what won’t work

BUILD IT

Groundwork, hard landscaping and finishing, all carried out by our own team.

  • Patios, paving and paths
  • Driveways and hardstanding
  • Walls, brickwork and steps
  • Fencing, gates and decking
  • Turfing and new lawns
  • Planting and finishing

The clearing, the groundwork and the build are all done by our own team, so there’s one person answerable for the finished garden. On larger planting schemes we bring in a specialist planter — you’ll know beforehand.

How it works

FROM FIRST CALL TO FINISHED GARDEN

We don’t price gardens over the phone. Every garden is different — the levels, the access, the soil, what you actually want out of it. So we come and look first, then price it properly.

01

Book a site visit

Call, or fill in the form and we’ll ring you back to arrange a time that suits you. Evenings and Saturdays are fine.

02

We talk it all through

We walk the garden together and go through your ideas properly. We sketch out a rough plan on the spot, take all the measurements we need, and tell you honestly what will work, what won’t and what we’d do differently. Bring photos or cuttings if you have them.

03

Your quotation within 48 hours

We price it up properly and your full written quotation is with you within 48 hours of the visit — the works broken down, the materials specified and a timescale. Not a figure scribbled on the back of a card. Take your time over it and compare it against anyone else.

04

We build it

Agreed dates, the same team throughout, and every bit of waste taken away with us. The price we quoted is the price you pay.

Why Hands On Tree Care & Landscapes

WHY SOUTH BUCKS CHOOSES CONNOR FLETCHER

01

Genuinely local to Bucks and Herts

Based in Chesham and working across both counties every week — Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead as much as the Bucks villages. We know the clay soil, the drainage problems and the access issues on these properties because we deal with them constantly.

02

Landscaping and tree work in one team

Most firms do one or the other. Grinding out a stubborn stump before a patio goes down, or reducing a tree that overshadows a new lawn, happens on the same job rather than becoming your problem to coordinate.

03

Licensed to take the waste away

We hold a waste carrier licence, so spoil, turf, arisings and old slabs leave with us and are disposed of legally. Fly-tipped waste traced back to you is your liability, not the contractor’s.

04

NPTC-qualified for the tree work

Chainsaw, aerial rescue and felling certificates held and current. It matters for your insurance as much as ours, and it is what separates an arborist from a man with a saw.

05

Priced properly, once

A written quote after we have seen the job, with the specification set out. No day-rate creep and no mid-job surprises once the ground is open.

06

You deal with Connor

The person who quotes the job is the person on site running it. No sales rep, and no handover to a crew you have never met. If a specialist comes in for a big planting scheme, you’ll know about it beforehand.

Common questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Not answered here? Call 01442 913157 and ask.

What happens when I get in touch?

We arrange a site visit at a time that suits you. It’s free and there’s no obligation attached. We walk the garden with you, talk your ideas through properly, sketch out a rough plan and take the measurements we need. Your detailed written quotation is with you within 48 hours of the visit — the works broken down, materials specified and a timescale.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Not an honest one. Levels, access, drainage and what’s under the surface change a job enormously, and a number given blind is either padded to cover the unknowns or gets revised upwards once work starts. We’d rather come and look. It takes half an hour and costs you nothing.

Do you charge for the visit or the quote?

No. Both are free and carry no obligation. If you decide to go elsewhere, that’s absolutely fine — you keep the quote and there’s no chasing.

Do you take the waste away?

Yes. We hold a waste carrier licence, so all spoil, old slabs, turf and tree arisings leave site with us and are disposed of legally. This matters more than people realise — if waste carrying your details is fly-tipped, the liability comes back to you, not to the contractor who dumped it.

Do I need permission to remove a tree?

Often, yes. If the tree carries a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area — and large parts of Chesham, Amersham and the Chalfonts do — you must give Buckinghamshire Council formal notice before any work starts. For a conservation area that is six weeks’ notice; for a TPO it is a full application. We handle the paperwork as part of the job. Working without it is a criminal offence and the fines are substantial.

How long does a typical garden project take?

It depends on the size of the job and the ground conditions, so we give you a timeline with the quote rather than a guess over the phone. What we will always do is tell you straight away if weather is going to move the dates, rather than leaving you wondering where we are.

Are you insured and qualified?

Yes. We carry public liability insurance and can send you the certificate before work starts, and our tree work is carried out by NPTC-qualified climbers. Ask any contractor for both. Anyone who hesitates is telling you something.

What areas do you cover?

Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Our office is in Berkhamsted and our yard is at Cholesbury, and we work regularly in Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead, Amersham, Tring, Great Missenden, the Chalfonts, Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield, Rickmansworth, Watford, High Wycombe and Aylesbury, plus the villages in between. Call to check anywhere else — we travel for the right job.
